ABOUT THE PROJECT

Problem Statement

Even with mobile maps and directions, emergencies leave many people in panic. Those seeking shelter during disasters may look to google or another app, only to find themselves more lost. It is difficult to find nearby shelters for natural disasters, abuse, war, and more. And with every moment during an emergency being crucial, spending any amount of time searching for the right shelter can be life threatening.

Product

Most people don't know where their local shelters are and it's confusing to look for it online, that why I discovered MyGuide. MyGuide is an AR app created to utilize developing technologies and find people safety fast. It guides the user from walking or driving, indoors or outdoors, to any destination of their choice. With this app, people will be able to easily find safety from any situation, saving time and possibly many lives.

Challenge

Create an AR app that guides people to nearby shelters to reduce panic and chaos during emergencies.

USER RESEARCH

Target Consumers

This app is designed for use by the public especially for those who find themselves in an emergency or live in hazard zones.

Pain Points

Looking up shelters on search engines is confusing and often times hard or impossible to find in a reasonable amount of time.

"There needs to be shelter options that relate to the current disasters and are accessible to those without vehicles."

"The app should address all kinds of scenarios and empathize with the users mindset, guiding them step-by-step."

"Shelters should be accessible right away in case of a last minute emergency and lead people on a safe path to their destination."

"It would be helpful to see what provisions the shelters provide so that I know what I need to bring."

Wireframes

I created larger wireframes that outlined the user FOV. After many iterations the following were used in the final prototype.

ITERATION

The final prototype was created by mapping out user flow and pages using sticky notes. Initially I used the sticky notes to create ideas and then took the ones that were most applicable and useful to the prototype. Then I placed then in a pattern that showed what pages were connected and the options on each page as well. I used these steps to create a functional and intuitive design for the AR UI and UX.
